Have you ever wondered about the very first argument (the one before K values) in EIGRP metric configuration which is always zero?

This is a fossil in IOS left by an idea of TOS-based routing. The original intention was to have separate routing destinations (several routes) for different TOS classes so that different types of traffic (TOS values in IP field) could have completely different routing topology and travel separate ways.
Similar remains can also be found in some OSPF implementations.
